Additional presenters:   Jaclyn Sierzenga, and Angela Patterson both speech-language pathologists in the Macomb Intermediate School District

Learn how using an activity called “Author’s Chair” has motivated and engaged students with moderate and severe disabilities to communicate. When students with disabilities are given instruction, opportunity to develop written language, and opportunities to talk about their writing, both written language and oral language improve. A panel of speech-language pathologists will discuss the SLPs' coaching roles: showing teachers how to incorporate the use of AAC and different language strategies into writing activities within the classroom and coaching students during participation in Authors Chair.  They will also share success stories about students who have improved their use of AAC and increased engagement in writing.
